I posted something like this on the westerforum sometime after Leviathan came out. But with all of the books out now, I think that a discussion about the role of technology in the series might be even more interesting. In one class I took in college, a professor asked us what role technology actually plays in history--does it really change history, or is it only people who change history, and the technology is irrelevent?
In Leviathan, different technologies have created an alternate universe. Technology seems to have even replaced many ideological differences (American political parties, maybe) and created additional rifts than in our universe. Does all of this mean that the technology changed history, or that Alek and Deryn's choices changed history? Food for thought... Waxesnostalgic 23:00, October 27, 2011 (UTC)
